WRO-2012

The World Robot Olympiad (WRO) is a global robotics competition for young people. WRO is organized every year with participation from more than 30 countries. WRO competition utilizes LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT robotic kits manufactured by LEGO® Education

WRO releases a challenge early in the year for participants to study and prepare the model. Particpants goes through multiple qualifying stages like regionals and nationals to book seat in WRO finals and compete against students from other countries. It provides a great opportunity to compete against BEST, and expand the knowledge horizon.

WRO challenges are categorized at multiple level to accommodate different age levels of participating students; each level is assigned their own challenge that they must complete using a robot of their own design.

Age Group Definitions

Elementary (Primary) School Age: Date of birth falls on or after January 01, 2000.

 

Junior High (Middle) School Age: Date of birth falls in the period January 01, 1997 to December 31, 1999. (If date of birth falls outside this range, it must not fall more than 6 months after this period)

 

High (Secondary) School Age: Date of birth falls in the period January 01, 1993 to December 31, 1996. (If date of birth falls outside this range, it must not fall more than 6 months after this period).

 

WRO GEN II Football: Birthday falls in the period January 01, 1993 to December 31, 2001. (If date of birth falls outside this range, it must not fall more than 6 months after this period)

 

WRO 2013 Challenges -

  • Elementary - The name of this year's elementary school regular category challenge is "Robot Organizer". It challenges you to build a robot that is capable of organizing objects back into their respective storage cells.

 

  • Junior High - The name of this year's junior high school regular category challenge is "Robot Columbus". It challenges you to build a robot that is capable of exploring rough terrain in search of useful resources. Once they have been found, bring these valuable resources back home to trade!

 

  • Senior High - The name of this year's senior high school regular category challenge is "Robot Van Gogh". It invites you to celebrate the spirit of robotics, WRO style! Build a robot to "paint" the poles on the game table in their respective colors by slotting the hollow cube of the same color onto them in the fastest time possible!
