WRO Competition is held across globe and supported by more than 45 member countries. This competition is organized every year, and participants progresses through qualifying stage in local regions & countries, before they can get selected for world finals WRO. WRO competition utilizes LEGO® MINDSTORMS® robotic kits manufactured by LEGO® Education. WRO is an ideal platform for students to leverage and learn science, mathematics, and technology and demonstrate skills by building robots. This is a good platform to compete against the BEST around the world, and provide a wide outlook by cross culture experience.
WRO 2014 will be held at Sochi (Russia) in 2014. Sochi is a city in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, located on the Black Sea coast near the border between Georgia/Abkhazia. Sochi hosted Winter Olympics in 2014, and now ready to host World Robot Olympiad.
Russia has been a leader in space launches from early 1900s. Yuri Gagarin was a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut. He was the first human to travel into outer space, when his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of the Earth on 12th Apr 1961. WRO 2014 theme is based on the space programs and satellite.
WRO is organized in multiple levels to accommodate different age levels of participating students; each level is assigned their own challenge that they must complete using a robot of their own design.

WRO 2014 Challenge
- Elementary - The robot’s mission is to assemble Rocket Elements in the Assembly Area, place the Rocket Elements vertically over the Ramp in the Launch Table Area, and evacuate all Civilians to the Safe Area. The robot must finish in the Safe Area after compleeting the task.
- Junior High - The mission of the robot is to collect all the Space Debris and Failed Satellites and to load them into the Factory Satellite. Valid Satellites must remain in the orbit. The robot must return in the Base zone (Earth) after compleeting the task.
- Senior High - The robot begins in the Base area. The robot will have to pass through the Gate into Outer Space, check for bad Solar Panels (black color) and replace them with good ones from the Warehouse in the Space Station. The robot also needs to discover and activate inactive Colored Solar Panels. The robot must return in the Base zone after completing the task.
Age Group Definitions –
Elementary (Primary) School Age: Date of birth falls on or after January 01, 2002.
Junior High (Middle) School Age: Date of birth falls in the period January 01, 1999 to December 31, 2001. (If date of birth falls outside this range, it must not fall more than 6 months after this period)
High (Secondary) School Age: Date of birth falls in the period January 01, 1995 to December 31, 1998. (If date of birth falls outside this range, it must not fall more than 6 months after this period).
WRO GEN II Football: Birthday falls in the period January 01, 1995 to December 31, 2003. (If date of birth falls outside this range, it must not fall more than 6 months after this period)
